Can I make the width of my Austral Fold Down Clothesline shorter?Updated 21 days ago

Sometimes the space you have available to install your clothesline might not match the size of the clothesline, which means the clothesline needs to be modified in width.

This is very easy to do with all brands of clotheslines including Austral as you just trim down the front bars of each frame before assembly to reduce the width.

All you need to do this is a hacksaw or angle grinder or any other steel cutting equipment.

The video below shows how to adjust or modify the width of an Austral Addaline 35 Fold Down Clothesline.

Reduce the clothesline width by trimming the spreader bars

All fold down clothesline brands including Austral, Eco, Hills, Sunbreeze, Daytek and many more all work in the same way, in that the front bar of the clothesline comes in sections which all push together to make the front bar.

To reduce the width of the clothesline, it is simply a matter of cutting each of the spreader bars to the required size you need.

For example if you have a 2400mm wide clothesline and you need to put it in a space of 1800mm, you would cut 300mm of each of the spreader bars.

Clothesline Width: 2400mm
Available Space: 1800mm
Size Change: Reduce by 600mm
Spreader Bar Change: Cut 300mm off each spreader bar
New Clothesline Width: 1800mm

Another example would be if you had a 3300mm wide clothesline and you have a space of 2900mm, you would cut 200mm of each of the spreader bars.

Clothesline Width: 3300mm
Available Space: 2900mm
Size Change: Reduce by 400mm
Spreader Bar Change: Cut 200mm off each spreader bar
New Clothesline Width: 2900mm

Note: If you have a Ground Mounted Fold Down clothesline you would need to make these size changes to the back bar that runs between the 2 posts as well.
